Terror Fi Film Festival 2024

TERROR-FI FILM FESTIVAL 2024

From massive blockbuster hits to stunning indie gems, from gross-out slasher gore to heart-warming sci-fi romance, Terror-Fi's 2024 line-up has something for everyone!

This year’s programme has been carefully curated to include award-winning and audience favourite genre films from festivals like SXSW, Fantasia, Toronto, Sitges, and Fantastic Fest... with two New Zealand cult classic retro screenings thrown in for good measure!

Our opening night on Wednesday 30 October features Terror-Fi's first ever double-header. The massive A24 horror hit HERETIC opens proceedings, featuring a career best performance from Hugh Grant in his first horror flick. That’s followed by the latest and goriest instalment in the ‘Terrifier’ series, TERRIFIER 3 – a film that makes that second one look like ‘Bambi’.

Terror-Fi's closing night thriller, STRANGE DARLING, is quite possibly the ‘Film of the Year’; taking you on the best kind of wild and unexpected cinematic ride. Another awesome headline title for 2024 is the Amy Adams-led comedy, horror NIGHTBITCH... which might well be your only chance to see the film on the big screen.

Terror-Fi 2024 also presents some truly stunning creative visions. Ukrainian sci-fi romance film U ARE THE UNIVERSE will make you laugh, make you cry, and feel everything in between. Fantastic Fest favourite ELSE is a truly unique body-horror romance, that plays like a stunningly beautiful fever dream with French indie filmmaking sensibilities. And last, but by no means least, we’re incredibly excited to bring to you the World Premiere of GUT INSTINCT, from New Zealand director Doug Dillaman – a one-of-a-kind trippy post-apocalyptic sci-fi, where you are an active participant in an epic, eye-popping experiment.

Each year we love to discover hidden indie gems; ones that will never make it to our screens but you deserve to see on them. THINGS WILL BE DIFFERENT is a stunning indie time-travel thriller produced by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (‘The Endless’, ‘Something in the Dirt’). Tense and trippy, it's a rabbit hole you’ll be glad you went down. THE WAVES OF MADNESS is the world’s first side-scrolling horror film, full of throwback monster movie and Lovecraftian vibes. UFO SWEDEN is a film that should never have flown under the radar. With 'Super 8’ vibes and a Scandi sense of humour, it's the type of sci-fi adventure cinemas were made for.

For our retros this year, we're bringing you two Kiwi cult classics! BLACK SHEEP is about as iconic a Kiwi genre film as there is... and we have the World Premiere of the 4K Remaster! Another iconic Kiwi film SCARFIES is celebrating its 25th Anniversary, so we’ll be celebrating with it. Director Jonathan King will be joining us for a Q&A at the screening of BLACK SHEEP!

Lastly, our free ‘Showcase’ of New Zealand and International short films returns this year, bringing you the best new genre talent to keep an eye on. For Wellington, this event will also include pitches from New Zealand feature film projects in development... that you’ll get to hear about first!

We’ve kept all ticket prices the same as last year. We know it’s not the easiest time at the moment and we greatly appreciate that you choose to support Terror-Fi. It means the world to us!

See you at The Capitol!
